FAQ

Does Acupuncture Hurt?
There is little or no pain during an acupuncture treatment. The needles are very thin and designed to go into the body with minimal discomfort. Some locations such as needles placed in the feet or face will be more uncomfortable than needles placed in the legs or back but overall acupuncture is a relaxing experience.

Is Acupuncture Safe?
Acupuncture needles are one time use only disposible needles. There is no risk of catching blood born illnesses. A registered acupuncturist in Alberta has a minimum of 500 hours of clinical experience and writes a five part exam over the course of two days in order to become registered. With proper training the risk associated with acupuncture is very low. The most common side effect is a small bruise where the needle is inserted, and even this is rare.

How Many Treatments will I need?
This will vary from person to person but in general with chronic conditions you will experience some relief after the first treatment with full results after the 7th to 10th treatment. A condition that is new and not chronic however will require less treatments. A pulled muscle or recent sports injury may take only one to three treatments when caught early. If you begin to experience cold symptoms come in right away and decrease your chances of getting sick with only one treatment.

Does Acupuncture Work?
Yes! Acupuncture has been practiced in China for more than 2000 years, only recently acupuncture has come to North America. Western style research to test if acupuncture is an effective treatment for many illnesses has shown great results and new studies are being performed all the time. Acupuncture is also recognized as effective treatment by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization.
